Technology in the Classroom

Technology in the Classroom

I used far less AI than I thought I would during my practicum my practicum. I found
myself relying far more on physical and digital curated resources, as well as disucssion
with my mentor teacher. When I did use AI tools, I exclusively used Google Gemini.

When I did implement AI, it was primarily for support in lesson planning. When
approaching midrange planning, I found myself beginning with Gemini to start the idea generation process. I worked to complete all of the assessment and differentiation on my
own. I actually found using pen and paper the most efficient way for me this year.  I took
a very barebones approach when implementing technology in the classroom. My takeaway
is to not over complicate things with an overwhelming amount of technology. Technology
is there to support, and if it is not used correctly or efficiently then all it will do is hinder.

I did not really have a burning question going into this practicum. My Mentor Teacher did not utilize AI very frequently. A question I have going forward would be how can AI be used to help with the little things. Making groups, managing time, creating slides. I know these tools exist, but I am looking for something with more utility.

I worked to contribute to the learning of others through one on one discussion and collaboration on learning goals. From others, I learned some incredible different perspectives on education and different styles of learning.

Hey Hayden! I like how you used one form of AI and stuck with it. I think you make a great point when you mention that technology can easily overcomplicate lessons when it's not used with intention. I wonder if you can use Gemini to help generate or find content for differentiation?

  2. Your reflection shows a really thoughtful approach to using AI during your practicum. I like that you recognized how tech should make teaching easier, not more complicated. Your curiosity about using AI for small day-to-day tasks, like grouping or making slides, shows you're thinking ahead about how to work more efficiently. It’s also great to see how much you learned through collaboration with peers.
