Post #1: AI applications and their various uses
Previous experience with AI applications (e.g., ChatGPT) and how you have used them (e.g., writing assignments)?
I have a history with AI applications, having utilised some of the earliest publicly available forms a few years back. Initially, I spent a good amount of time with ChatGPT, but I have recently moved over to Google Gemini, and I prefer the format and data. My primary use of AI comes in the form of research and information gathering. I am not fond of the way AI phrases some ideas or writes papers, but its use in mass idea generation is invaluable. Recently, I have begun putting AI to use with lesson planning. I will ask questions that allow me to efficiently generate ideas for classroom activities and lessons.
Educational technology being used in your 3rd-year practicum placement?
My Mentor utilizes a multitude of helpful AI tools, some for small efficiency tasks such as
'class dojo', and others to generate much larger components of lessons. 'Teach Share AI'
This is a tool to streamline and accelerate worksheet and resource creation. This resource
is used by all of the grade 5/6 teachers in my school. My MT also uses 'Magic School'
to create rubrics, and mid range plans. While she is heavily invested in AI, she is very
ademant to fit the needs of the class. to be vigilant in the accuracy of AI technology.
Everything AI creates is reviewed and edited.
What “burning” question do you have about the use of digital technologies in K–9 education?
How can it be used to help with long term planning and differentiation. While I am aware student names should never be used with AI technology, can it be used to develop anonymous student profiles to assist in creating differentiation strategies
Why is the question important to YOU?
From lessons I have witnessed in the past, differentiation is almost always the factor that takes the most of my focus. If there is a way to streamline this process so I can spend more time focusing on the broader outcomes of the lesson during the planning stage, and more time with the students in the application phase.
Great work. I love your thoughts. I have never used class dojo and would like to hear more about this!
ReplyDeleteI think your questions and insights are really great!
